According to Deadline, Darren Aronofsky wanted it for Natalie Portman, Working Title Films was hoping to get it for Reese Witherspoon, The Weinsteins were trying to snag it for George Clooney and Grant Heslov,
You might notice a little something about the actresses mentioned above. With the exception of Robbie, they're all at least in the same age range as Addario, who is 41. Addario's autobiography kicks off with 9/11 and how it changed the course of her career, which would mean the onscreen Addario would be around 27. That's not too far of a cry for Lawrence, who is 24, but it would have been very cool to see some other — perhaps older — actresses take a crack at this challenging role.
